Workshop IntroThe purpose of this workshop is to acquaint you with the general concepts for setting up a basic ecommerce website, no programming knowledge is required. A time may come when you will need to have the ability to communicate effectively with a web programming consultant or internet service provider (ISP) that you have hired to create or host a website for you, or with a client if you are the programmer. You don't want to feel as though you are being held hostage by your consultant or ISP because it seems they are speaking a whole other language. We will go through the process in two sessions, at the end of the second session you will have a fully functional (albeit very basic) eCommerce website. The first session will cover all of the preparation steps necessary to obtain a domain name and set up a hosting environment for your eCommerce website. To keep costs down, we will utilize free online services and resources throughout this workshop including programs from the open source comminity. The only expense will be domain registration and hosting fees. Preparation StepsObtain an email addressRegister a domain name Register with PayPal (Optional but Recommended) In the second session we will cover uploading files to your website via FTP, configuring the website and creating a product database, and adding products to the database online.
